JainStudy FB Group to Host Workshop on ‘Tracing Our Roots’

Y.B. Chavan Auditorium, Mantralaya, Mumbai

The JainStudy Group on Facebook will organise its first workshop titled ‘#1st JAINSTUDY WORKSHOP’ at Mumbai on January 7, 2017 on the occasion of its 2nd anniversary. The workshop is focused on the theme ‘Tracing Our Roots’ and will offer expert insights into Jain History & Arts. It will be addressed by noted scholars Dr Bipin Doshi and Prof. Shilpa Chheda.

DR BIPIN DOSHI -- on the salient features of Jainism with special emphasis on its historic origins, divisions and relevance in the 21st century

A physician for 33 yrs and now entrepreneur in construction business since 2010, Dr Doshi is a Jain scholar teaching Jainism all over world. He established Jain Department at University of Mumbai. He is Hon. Founder Secretary JITO; Hon. Vice President of VEERAYATAN and author of world renowned book ”Gandhi before Gandhi”. Based on this book a drama is made which has completed 100 shows.

Dr Doshi is Trustee: C U Shah Medical College; President, Borivali Sanskrutik Kendra: Trustee, Borivali Medical Association; Co-mentor for a Jain Documentary Film “Monument of Peace” and writer of three popular Jain historic dramas viz. 1) Gandhi before Gandhi, 2) Bhamasha and 3) Motisha.

PROF. SHILPA CHHEDA – on the aesthetic ideas reflected in Jain literature and art, explaining the special forms and symbols. With emphasis on some specimens of Jaina architecture – Ayagapatas, Stupas, Cave-temples and Temples.

Prof Chheda hold an M.A. from Jaina Vishva Bharati Institute, Ladnun, Rajasthan and an M.A. Ancient Indian Culture, University of Mumbai. She serves as Curator cum Account Assistant at Heras Institute of Indian History and Culture, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and is Visiting Faculty for Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Indian Aesthetics, Department of Philosophy, University of Mumbai.
