Siddhant Mehta in Maharashtra Team that was Runner Up in National Rugby Tournament

Siddhant S. Mehta was a member of the Maharashtra state team that emerged as the Runners-up in the Societé Generalé Junior National Rugby Sevens championships held at Chennai on June 10-11, 2017. The two-day tournament is conducted by the Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU).

Siddhant is currently studying in Std X at Cathedral & John Connon School, Mumbai. He is the son of Arpita and Sumeet Mehta and grandson of Late Nainaben and Kumarbhai K. Mehta.

The team put up an excellent performance beating Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the earlier rounds and defeating the defending champions Odisha in the semi-final. They were defeated by West Bengal in the final.

Earlier in the month, Siddhant played as a member of the Mumbai district team that won the state championships held in Nagpur on June 2 where they beat Kolhapur in the final. He was subsequently called for a training camp in Mumbai for shortlisted probables for the state team, and then selected to represent Maharashtra in the finals.

Last year, Siddhant was also a member of the state team that won the rugby tournament held as part of the National School Games 2016 organised by the SGFI in Bhubhaneshwar. He has been playing rugby for the past two years.

Siddhant is also an avid football player and last year also represented the school team which won the all-India qualifying tournament and represented India at the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Finals round held in Munich.
