Super senior citizen and veteran golfer Suresh Kirtilal Mehta recently won the Super Senior Golf Tournament held at Pune for players from across Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa. Mehta, who is now 86 years of age, is one of the oldest golf players in the country, and possibly the only one who actively participates and even wins tournaments.

This year, over 150 golfers took part in the tournament of whom 16 were above the age of 75. The tournament is an annual event, conducted by the Addicts Golfing Association. Mehta had emerged victorious last year too.

Mehta says that the association helps connect golfer enthusiasts across the states and regularly conducts six matches during the year. Membership is open to ladies also, and they can participate in all the tournaments as well.

Since 1984, when he first began playing, Mehta has won more than 35 awards and trophies at tournaments organised by clubs across India. These include the prestigious Mercedes trophy, Mayfair trophy, Chembur Club trophy etc. His most outstanding achievement remains his six-hole in one, meaning that he sent the golf ball into a tiny 3.5 inch hole between 325 -725 feet away in a single shot. This remains a record in India till today.
