Anshul Kothari to Represent India in Swimming at 18th Asian Games in Indonesia

Anshul K. Kothari will represent India in the swimming competition at the 18th Asian Games which will be held in Jakatra and Palembang, Indonesia from August 18 to September 2, 2018. This is the third time that the swimmer will be participating in the Asian Games, having earlier been part of the Indian contingent in 2010 and 2014 also. Anshul is the son of Sushama and Ketan Rasiklal Kothari.

 

The young swimmer, who had been focusing on completing his MBA from Hyderabad will be participating in the 50m butterfly and freestyle individual events and will also be a part of the 4x100m freestyle relay team. He is the only swimmer from Gujarat on the team.


Anshul had won gold medals in the Asian Age Group competitions in 2011 and 2015 and is now hoping for a medal at the senior level.


Speaking to the media prior to his departure for the event, Anshul had said that he faces tough challenges from the Chinese and Japanese swimmers but feels that there may be a realistic chance in the relay event.


He said he is also focusing his training with the aim of making it to the Indian team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
