Palanpur Team emerged victorious in the finals of the 23rd Banas Cup played at Hindu Gymkhana on January 13, defeating Dhanera by 113 runs. They thus retained the trophy that they had won last year also.
In the final match, batting first, Palanpur Team scored 289 runs before dismissing Dhanera for 176 runs. Raj Mehta with 105 Not Out, Rishin with 96.were the top scorers while wickets were taken by Yash (3) Raj (2), and Rupen, Saurabh and Jay (1 each).
The Banas Cup, now in its 23rd edition, is a cricket tournament played amongst the different communities (samaj) from the Banaskantha District of Gujarat in Mumbai.
Earlier, Palanpur Team won three consecutive victories in the league stage of the tournament, beating the teams from Bhiladiyaji (by 7 wickets), Deesa (by 7 wickets) and Tharad (by 5 wickets).
In the semi-final held on January 3, 2019, they triumphed over the team from Sattargam also by 7 wickets. While the former scored 145 runs in 35.5 overs, the Palanpur team reached 146 for the loss of just 3 wickets in a mere 16.3 overs.
