Exim Bank Hosts National Exhibition of Paintings on Life of Mahatma Gandhi in Palanpur

An exhibition entitled ‘Relive the Ideals of the Mahatma through Art’, with 25 pieces of art created by traditional artists from across the country and specially commissioned by EXIM Bank was hosted at the Smt. Sushilaben Dalpatbhai Parikh Palanpur Museum & Art Gallery between December 23, 2019 and January 10, 2020. The Museum and Art Gallery is managed by Vidyamandir Trust.


Planned to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, and propagate his message at the national and international level, the exhibition provides a retrospective on some historical milestones and highlights a few important lessons from Mahatma Gandhi’s life.


Launched in Delhi on Martyrs Day (January 30, 2019), the exhibition has subsequently been held at Aga Khan Palace, Pune; Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad; Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata; Vishwa-Bharati, Santiniketan; Mani Bhawan, Mumbai and The Nehru Centre, UK. 
 

The selected artists represent 12 different traditional art forms – Warli from  Dahanu, Maharashtra; Gond from near Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh; weaving from Kamrup, Assam; Pattachitra from Chandanpur in Odisha; Papier Mache from Srinagar in J&K; Tanjore from Triplicane in Tamil Nadu; Sanjhi from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh; Pattua from Paschim Medinipur in West Bengal; Kalamkari from Srikalahasthi in Andhra Pradesh; Mata-Ni-Pachedi from Ahmedabad in Gujarat; Phad from Bhilwara in Rajasthan and Madhubani from Bihar.

 

A large number of students and teachers from the educational institutions run by Vidyamandir, students from Fine Arts College, Palanpur with their professors, and more than 2,000 art lovers and patrons from in and around Palanpur visited the exhibition. Over 400 delegates and scholars of literature of Gujarat who took part in the ’31st Gyan Satra’ organized by Gujarati Sahitya Parishad in the Trust Campus at the same time were also among the viewers.
 

A book fair was also organized on the campus to coincide with the exhibition.
