Palanpur-based Banas Dairy has emerged as the largest milk procurer in the 13 dairy network of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCCMF), displacing the Dudhsagar dairy of Mehsana which had been the No.1 till now. This makes it the largest milk procurer in India and Asia as well. This is the first time that Banas Dairy has achieved this distinction.

According to a news report in the Ahmedabad edition of Economic Times, Banas dairy has already collected 2.22 million litres (as on November 24, 2008), which was 1.25 lakh litres (daily procurement) more than the record 2.1 million litres collected last year. The average daily milk collection of the dairy has risen to 5 lakh litres more than last year’s average. The milk procurement at Banas dairy has seen a 25% increase this year, which is among the highest among the milk-co-operatives.
