Leading Palanpuri diamantaire, Harshad R. Mehta, a director of the Rosy Blue Group, has pledged an additional US$ 1.5 million to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for its polio eradication project during a recent meeting that Bill Gates had with Indian Rotarian business leaders. The event, which took place in New Delhi, was hosted by the India PolioPlus Committee and Rajashree Birla, a member of The Rotary Foundation’s Arch C. Klumph Society.
Mr. Mehta, a member of the Rotary Club of Bombay Metropolitan, had already committed to giving US$ 2 million for this cause last December. The donations are part of Rotary's US$ 100 Million Challenge campaign.
"On being advised that additional funds would be required for polio eradication and seeing the commitment and resolve of the Gates family, I was duly enthused to increase my commitment," Mr. Mehta said. "It is a good investment in the future of the children of the world. I would appeal to all Rotarians and like-minded friends to improve on their commitment and support of The Rotary Foundation's effort for polio eradication."
