Kanubhai Chunibhai Jhaveri, a leading member of various diamond industry associations and Palanpuri community organizations, passed away in Mumbai on December 23, 2008. He was a widely respected figure among the diamond community, and his death was mourned by all. 

Kanubhai was born on October 20, 2008 at Palanpur and joined the diamond business at the age of 19 through his proprietorship firm, M/s. Kanubhai Chunilal Jhaveri. 

Over the years he served the industry in various capacities, and was an active member of the Working Committee of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), as well as Convener of its Administration & Finance Committee and Awards Committee, the latter for nearly 15 years, and member of Promotion and Development Committee, and Banking, Taxation & Insurance Committee.

For promoting the Indian diamond industry, Kanubhai also travelled extensively, representing the trade at the World Diamond Congress in Antwerp, and as a part of delegations to USA, Venezuela, Canada, Italy, Portugal, France and West Germany. 

Kanubhai was also one of the founder members of the Diamond Exporters’ Association Limited (DEAL) and the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), and served as the Honorary Secretary of DEAL and the Mumbai Diamond Merchants’ Association (MDMA). 

In recognition of his contribution to the industry, Kanubhai was twice conferred awards in 1978 and 1988 by GJEPC, and was honoured by the MDMA during its centenary celebrations (link to News item) a few months ago. 

On the social front, Kanubhai was actively involved with Palanpur Samaj Kendra (PSK), and Lok Niketan, Ratanpur, among others. He received an award from the PSK in 2004 for his all round services.
