The region around Palanpur is likely to see some major industrial development in the coming years with the Gujarat state government choosing the Palanpur – Mehsana Industrial Area as one of six areas in the state chosen for special attention under the

Special Investment Regions (SIR) Ordinance that was promulgated on January 9, 2009.

The SIR which was one of the new features in the Modi government’s Industrial Policy announced last week, will be developed in an area of more than 100 sq. kms, and will have a single window clearance system as well as a decentralized administrative mechanism for speedy decisions and implementation. SIR development includes setting up of industrial units, private townships and infrastructural facilities.
