40th Anniversary Celebration
Shree Banaskantha Palanpur Jain Association, Chennai (SBPJA) held a day-long function on January 11, 2009 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the organization. The programme, which was attended by a number of distinguished guests from Mumbai, included visits to the ongoing projects of the association and a felicitation function in the evening.
The event began with the members and guests visiting a grain distribution centre in Tambaram, one of the seven centres through which nearly 2000 pre-screened underprivileged families receive monthly rations against production of their cards at highly subsidized rates. The members and their guests participated in the distribution.
At a Grain Distribution Camp
The next stop was at a village camp at Thiruverkadu where the health and eye screening camp was already under progress. Spectacles, hearing aids, clothes and medicines were distributed. Nearby, a veterinary camp in progress was also witnessed.In the afternoon, the guests visited the new premises of Lotus Blind Welfare Trust of India in Royapettah which is also supported by this Association. Following a prayer by the inmates, the guests were taken around and shown the facilities there.
Later in the evening at a function organized at Hotel Deccan Plaza, the guests were felicitated. The associate organizations were also honoured. To mark this occasion the “40 Year Odyssey” Magazine & DVD was released.

Other Activities
During January and February 2009, the SBPJA also provided active support to the following projects:
Eye Screening Camps : Students were screened for eye disorders and spectacles were prescribed to those in need. Lunch was also provided.
• Sri Sathya Sai Primary School, Ambattur on January 31 -- 156 students were screened.• Government School Ayyappanagar on February 6 -- 262 students were screened • Government High School, Ayyapakkam on February 20 and 21 -- 1230 students were screened. • Township Middle School, Senthil Nagar on February28 -- 200 students were screened.
General Village Camp: Conducted at Avadi Township Middle School, Parathipattu Village on February 22. Besides general health and eye screening, a few patients were referred for cataract surgery. Medicines were distributed and lunch was provided to them. Sports and games were conducted for children. 233 persons registered at this camp.
