PSK Holds Fashion Extravaganza and Variety Entertainment
Programme - The Cultural Committee of the Palanpur Samaj Kendra organised
its annual cultural programme with a new attraction this year – a Fashion Extravaganza
to accompany the variety entertainment put up by community members.

in Singapore - Art Facet, the art gallery opened recently by well known
artist Rajul Amish Mehta has been rapidly gaining in popularity among art lovers
in Singapore.
New York Palanpuris Take a ‘Step Forward’ -
Nearly 200 people, most of them members of the Palanpuri community from New York
/ New Jersey participated in ‘Step Forward’, a 5K Run / Walk organised to focus
the community’s attention on health and fitness and raise funds for "Lend-A-Hand
India", an NGO providing vocational and job/life skills training to poor young boys
and girls from villages in India.
“I grew up amidst trees and greenery, and will always
strive to protect them” - Dr. Ashok Kothari - He came to Mumbai as a young
doctor over 40 years ago and was immediately appalled by the lack of greenery and
the way trees were being cut for development.
Aditya Mehta Wins Second Medal at Asian Games Snooker
- Aditya Mehta won a bronze in the Snooker Singles event at the Asian Games in Guangzhou,
China -- his second medal at the Games.
K. L. Syed’s Photographs Showcased at Ahmedabad Exhibition
- An Exhibition of selected photographs of the Late K.L. Syed, renowned photographer
of Palanpur was held recently to coincide with World Photography Day.
BDKM Acquires Additional Land for Planned Expansion
of G.D. Modi Sankul - The Banaskantha District Kelvani Mandal (BDKM) has
recently acquired 2.25 acres of land adjoining the G.D. Modi Vidya Sankul for future
expansion of the educational institutions on the campus. The land was purchased
from the Gujarat government.

Aditya Mehta won a bronze in the Snooker Singles event at the just concluded Asian
Games in Guangzhou, China -- his second medal at the Games, adding to the silver
that he had earlier won in the team event. Aditya is the son of Sheela and Snehal
Jagdishchandra Mehta.
In the Singles, Aditya lost in the semis to eventual winner Marco Fu Ka of Hong
Kong, while in the team event which India lost 1-3 to China, Aditya was the lone
Indian cueist to win a match in the final, beating Leang Wenbo of China by a narrow
margin of 5 points.
The two medals are one more creditable achievement for the young snooker star during
the last 12 months. Almost exactly a year ago, Aditya was a member of the Indian
team that won a gold medal at the 3rd Indoor Asian Games 2009 held at Ho Chi Minh
City in Vietnam defeating Qatar in the final3-0. Aditya won his matches both in
the singles and doubles.
Aditya has also consistently won a number of laurels for himself and for the country
at various national and international tournaments in the past few years.
These include:
- Bronze Medal in Asian Games Team Snooker – Doha, 2006
- Runner Up at the Asian Snooker Championship, Dubai, 2008
- Runner-Up - National Selection Tournament- Asian Snooker Championship, 2009
- Winner - National Selection - Asian Snooker Championship, 2008
- Runner-Up - National Snooker Championship, 2007
- Winner - U-21 National Snooker Championship, 2006
Aditya earlier became only the fourth Indian player to take part in the prestigious
World Professional Snooker League, open only to the 72 top ranking professionals
and 24 top ranking amateurs in the world, when he was one of the invitees in 2008.
