Nawab Iqbal Mohammed Khan passed away in Mumbai on Monday September 6, 2010 after
a brief illness. He was 94.
Nawabsaheb Iqbal Mohammed Khan, son of Nawab Taley Mohammed Khan, the last ruler
of the erstwhile state of Palanpur was born on October 8, 1917.
He was inducted into his father’s cabinet in 1938-39 and gathered rich experience
in administration. It is well known that he was virtually in charge during the absences
of his father from the state, and often took decisions on behalf of his father in
consultation with the then Chief Minister.
As the accession of the State of Palanpur to the Indian Union took place on June
10, 1948 under Nawab Taley Mohammed Khan, Iqbal Mohammed Khan was never the formal
ruler of Palanpur. However after his father passed away on May 17, 1957, following
the royal traditions, he formally took over the reins and became the 30th Nawab
of Palanpur.
