A new, recently published study released to mark a century of the Bombay Antwerp diamond trade has highlighted how the first Palanpuri Jain families had not only initiated business ties in the European city over a hundred years ago, but some had actually settled there as early as the 1920s.
A number of cultural, social and business organisations came together for a public felicitation of poet, writer and ghazalkar Pravinchandra Manilal Mehta, popularly known as Amar Palanpuri held in Surat in May. The programme was held to honour him for winning the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi’s prestigious ‘Vali’ award this year and a UN felicitation some years ago.
