Designer Krishna Mehta awarded Honorary Doctorate Degree (D Phil) by Sanskriti University

The Sanskriti University, in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, recently conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (D. Phil.) on well-known designer Krishna Mehta to honour her extraordinary contributions in the field of Textile Design and Handicrafts, particularly her unwavering commitment to excellence, pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation.

Sanskriti University is one of the leading private universities in Uttar Pradesh, and textile and fashion design are among the many courses that it offers.

In its citation to Krishna Mehta, the Executive Council of the university said that “you have not only captivated societies worldwide, but also left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape... (with your) unparalleled talent, dedication, artistry….  (which have) transcended boundaries, inspiring countless individuals.”

It also highlighted her “contribution in the field of Textile Design and handicraft (which) remains monumental... (and) your dedication to nurture and promote Indian textile which has brought it to international standards.”

The University also noted how "philanthropy has been a part of the journey" and the designer’s “vision for Divyang children that has inspired the younger generation.”

Mehta, who has been in the design field for over four decades, has collaborated in various projects that helped empower differently-abled
individuals. Mehta completed a course in teaching and communicating with these bright vibrant people at a very young age and always wanted to work with them. Among her notable initiatives are the ongoing work of creating collections with students from SPJ Sadhana School and youth from Om Creations. She had also started an initiative in Palanpur under the banner of a collective, Palak, where block print designs were created along with hearing and speech impaired women and youth. This organisation was later dissolved but Mehta hopes that may be realised in the future.
