Palanpur Museum

Palanpur > Palanpur Museum
Welcome to Palanpur Museum and Art Gallery:
This Museum is about the city of Palanpur, its past and its present. Interpreted through photographs, artefacts, representations, and memories, it aims to evoke its spirit, and give voice to the communities that have created the city, sustained it, and transformed it with time.
The museum is divided into three parts: the Spirit of Palanpur, the Story of Palanpur and Celebrating the People of Palanpur.

The Spirit of Palanpur
In this room we represent a distillation of Palanpur with images, objects, and ideas that help define our city. It has still images as well as video documentary about the city.

The Story of Palanpur
These two rooms talk about the deep past of Palanpur which is unknown even for the Palanpuris. It also displays official documents, artefacts, personal accounts, and photographs from the time of the Nawabs.

Celebrating the People of Palanpur
A town is known by its people. Palanpur is particularly special. Here you will see the diverse communities nurtured by the City. It is about the Palanpuris. We have tried to recreate the history of Palanpur here through various interviews of those whose many generations have lived here. The room displays various ornaments, attires, household things and local market of Palanpur. In the corridor near Room No 4, maps of Banaskantha and Gujarat and Uttarved have been displayed.

Art Gallery and Film Room
Adjoining the museum is a lively art gallery and exhibition space with attractive display modules to showcase local talent, and hold workshops. State-of-the-art video projection facilities are available in the Film Room for regular screenings of films on local history, and educational subjects. Any person can arrange an exhibition at the art gallery. We invite you to look, engage, and immerse yourself in its spirit, and experience the unique harmony between our rich past and our ever changing, present.

The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday.
