Seema Mehta and Rina Mehta disciples of Pt. Chitresh Das, will be presenting a path breaking new production “Jain Katha - Stories and Shlokas from Jain Scriptures through Kathak” at NCPA on May 3, 2013. Seema is the daughter of Kaushik Mehta (Eurostar), and Director of Chhandam School of Kathak in Mumbai while Rina Mehta is Director of Chhandam School of Kathak, LA. There will also be live music- Tabla, Pakhawaj, Sitar, Harmonium, Flute, Manjeera, Vocals. 50% of the ticket proceedings will be going to Nanhi Kali to support the education of a girl child.

Jain Katha- Stories and Shlokas from Jain Scriptures through Kathak

A path breaking new production by Seema Mehta and Rina Mehta,disciples of Pt. Chitresh Das. The show presents in a dynamic way the principles of compassion, sacrifice and forgiveness which are the cornerstones of Jainism through Kathak . Fifty children open the stage chanting Navkaar Mantra followed by a Vandana to a Jain Shloka by Seema. Rina and Seema also demonstrate Kathak Yoga where they sing, play the harmonium and dance, all simultaneously.

Chandanbala - Rina Mehta presents through compelling dance and abhinaya Princess Vasumati's journey to becoming a monk by doing all the roles herself- the kings at war, the mother, the merchant, the father, the step mother and the princess herself. Through a dynamic interplay of music, exciting compositions, crisp footwork and lightening chakkars, the audience experiences an ancient Jain Katha through dance and music.

Mangal Mandir Kholo - An enlightening Jain prarthana set in Raag Bhairavi by Seema Mehta beckoning the divine to attain ultimate spiritual liberation.
