In increasing challenging times such as these, it is important to remember that careers are not cast in stone. Changing interests, new opportunities or simply a lack of options can force changes in job profiles. While this is undoubtedly intimidating, it is worth studying the success of such transitions. Two extraordinary examples of the same are the power couple Sanjay and Falguni Nayar, both of whom changed careers at the peak of their respective professions, and still achieved immense success.
 
Sanjay was CEO of Citigroup’s Indian and South Asian operations when he left the bank and joined KKR, arguably the most successful private equity and investment firm in the international arena today. Since then, he has steered several notable projects to success, and in the process increased the value of the firm’s investments greatly.
 
Falguni was Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Capital Company, India’s leading investment bank. Here, she was virtually second in command to Uday Kotak himself, and helped develop Kotak’s successful and diverse investment portfolio. She left at the peak of her career to set up an online beauty product store, Nykaa.com, which has added several international brands to its collection. Her success is undoubted; Nykaa recently raised US $9.5m, and Falguni has received several awards and much recognition.
 
This talk will cover the milestones of the speakers’ respective journeys, insights into their thought processes, and an understanding of the intricacies of a career change.
