Today, the diamond and jewellery markets are predominantly controlled by family businesses. While these businesses have high personal attachment for owners, they have their own sets of challenges, ranging from building professional systems to the induction of new members. The Inspiration Series attempts to address these issues and help provide lessons to build sustainable family businesses through an analysis of one of India’s foremost family-run businesses, the GMR Group, built up by entrepreneur extraordinaire G.M. Rao.

The GMR Group successfully combines a professional corporate structure with a family hierarchy, a factor which has helped it emerge as a major global infrastructure developer with landmark projects like the Delhi and Hyderabad International airports.

Three distinguished speakers – G.M. Rao, Tatwamasi Dixit and Prasad M. Kumar - will speak from their experiences, provide advice on developing systems in businesses, and most importantly, help us answer the all-important question: what lessons does the success of companies like GMR have for those of us in family-run diamond and jewellery businesses?
