Student from Palanpur Receives National Child Award at the hands of Hon’ble President of India

Nirzar Naineshkumar Dave, a student of Std 8 at the Vidyamandir Trust run Shri B.K.Bhanshali Vinaymandir in Palanpur was awarded a Silver medal at the National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement, 2016 for an innovation that reduces wastage of seeds during sowing operations. The award was presented by Hon. President Shri Pranab Mukherjee at a special function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Children’s Day, 14th November, 2016.

The young student was awarded by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India for exceptional achievement in the field of innovation. He was the only student from the state of Gujarat among the awardees.

Dave had developed a sensor based system which farmers could use at the time of planting of crops to confirm that the seeds have been properly sowed. Realising that generally many seeds either remain on the surface of the earth and become food for birds, or go too deep into the soil and don't germinate properly. Dave developed a system where a sensor is attached to the seed dibbler or drill plough. If the seed has not been sown properly, the system emits a signal so that it can be properly planted once again. In this way, Dave’s device makes sure that each seed sown by the farmers bear fruits for them.

The National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement gives recognition to children with exceptional abilities in fields such as academics, culture, arts, sports, music etc.  Children in the age group of 5-18 years are eligible for the award. The award comprises one Gold Medal and 30 silver medals including certificate and a cheque of Rs. 20,000 to Gold Medalist and Rs.10,000/- to each Silver Medalist.  The awards for the year 2016 were given to the 31 children.
