The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi recently unveiled a plaque to mark the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art cheese plant and whey drying plant at Palanpur. The inauguration was conducted using a remote controlled device, while the PM was addressing a meeting at Deesa on December 10 to launch the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Banaskantha Cooperative Milk Producers Union (Banas Dairy).

The plant at Palanpur is the largest cheese plant in India and has been built with an investment of Rs 350 crore, the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) said. It has a capacity of manufacturing 900 metric tonne (MT) per month, was built with technical and financial support from the National Dairy Development Board.

"In terms of technology and modern equipment this plant is most advanced with possibility of further expansion," GCMMF's managing director R S Sodhi had earlier told the media. Banas Dairy's managing director had said that the new plant will produce both mozzarella and processed cheese.
