The Jain Study Group on Facebook, set up by Dilipbhai Mehta of Rosy Blue, Amalbhai Jhaveri and others, will organise its first workshop titled ‘#1st JAINSTUDY WORKSHOP’ at Mumbai on January 7, 2017 on the occasion of its 2nd anniversary. The workshop is focused on the theme ‘Tracing Our Roots’ and will offer expert insights into Jain History & Arts. It will be addressed by noted scholars Dr Bipin Doshi and Prof. Shilpa Chheda.
Dr Doshi, an eminent Jain scholar and world-famous author who has taught Jainism all over world and established Jain Department at University of Mumbai, will be speaking on the salient features of Jainism with special emphasis on its historic origins, divisions and relevance in the 21st century. Prof Chheda, notably famous for her research and understanding of Jain art and architecture will be speaking about the aesthetic ideas reflected in Jain literature and art, explaining the special forms and symbols with emphasis on some specimens of Jaina architecture – Ayagapatas, Stupas, Cave-temples and Temples.
The main organisers attribute the success of the group to its ability to engage people with well curated topics, a regulated process for posting and discussion issues of interest (strictly non-commercial) which creates opportunities for learning, discussing and sharing. The highly pro-active members also contribute to its popularity – in 2016 alone on the Jainstudy group page, 4,438 posts were published, which recieved 2,69,000 likes, 20,000 comments and were shared 26,000 times!
The Workshop is being held on January 7, 2017 at the Y. B. Chavan Auditorium, Mantralaya, Mumbai at 6.15 pm.
