Vyoma Parikh Holds First Solo Art Exhibition

‘The Forgotten Space’, an exhibition of paintings by former international table tennis player Vyoma Parikh, held at The Artists' Centre at Kalaghoda, Mumbai last month was well received. Vyoma is the wife of Atul Parikh, also a former table tennis international.

This was Vyoma’s first solo exhibition. The paintings on display offered aninsight into the vibrancy of rural India and Indian culture, spaces whose beauty most people often turn a blind eye to.

Many table tennis legends such as Gautam Diwan, Farrokh and Kaity Khodaiji, Indu Puri (who made a special trip from New Delhi), Bipin and Indira Patel, Suhas Kulkarni, Kamlesh and Mona Mehta, Nandini Kulkarni amongst others, were present at the inauguration along with other dignitaries.

Born and brought up in Mumbai, Vyoma displayed a love for arts and design since childhood. She was an accomplished table tennis player having represented and captained the Indian Women’s Team at many international events between 1979 and 1987, but also continued her association with art.  Widely travelled, she has drawn her inspiration from many places and artists from all over the world.

Vyoma has been a jewellery designer and artist for almost the last three decades, and has trained under Anand Pardesee of Nootan Kala Kendra and portrait artist Pramod Kurlekar.
