Jayantibhai Mehta Celebrates 100th Birthday

Jayantibhai Thakorlal Mehta completed 100 years in age in the company of close relatives and friends on the 19th of February 2017. At a grand party at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Colaba he was felicitated by all his loved ones who came to Mumbai from various parts of the world to celebrate this milestone achievement. Hosted by his grandson Pranay Mehta (Thakorlal Hiralal) and Neha Mehta, the evening was one of nostalgia, beautiful music and bonhomie. In fact, it is the first time that the Taj group has had the honour of hosting a Centennial birthday celebration and he was also felicitated by the hotel's management.

Jayantibhai's great granddaughters Kimaya Mehta(age 11) and Advika Mehta (age 7) opened the night by singing a special song "ik din bik jaayega maati ke mol" which accurately describes his philiosophy of life. His sister Anila Mehta (from Edinborough, Scotland) humourously added that her brother had "hit a century"! Jayantibhai's granddaughter Komal Samir Sheth (from Los Angeles) also spoke at length about his influence and charity minded nature specially mentioning his favourite thought "bhagwan jeevade em jeevta seekho". Jayantibhai's daughter Reena Suraiya (from Kolkata) with her family and grandson in law Hitesh Sheth (from LA) also came to Mumbai specially for this occasion. Smita Narendra Mehta spoke in Gujarati about how Jayantibhai has led by example in living a full life in every sense of the word.

An avid card player, his cake was specially designed as the Ace and King of hearts as grandson Pranay Mehta spoke for the entire gathering when he called Jayantibhai "the King of our hearts". The evening continued late into the night with family and friends then taking to the dance floor to the tunes of old and new Bollywood songs. Such a unique celebration and evening will be cherished for many years to come. Jayantibhai will also be felicitated at a party at the Hyatt Regency in his hometown of Kolkata on March 24th. His family prays for his continued good health and happiness and that he may continue his good work in the field of charity for many years to come.
