PSK Felicitates Young Achievers at Rising Stars 2016

Palanpur Samaj Kendra organized “The Rising Stars 2016” function on the 19th of February, 2017 at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratisthan to applaud the success of young achievers of the community who have excelled in the field of education, art and sports in the year 2016. The bright Sunday morning programme was attended by a huge number of dignitaries, respected elders of the community, the Palanpur Samaj Kendra committee members, the Rising Stars and their friends and family. This indeed provided much encouragement to the Rising Stars as well as raised the sights of all the other young budding stars who are to follow in their footsteps in the years to come. 

The Chief Guest for the function was an extremely well known and an eminent respected personality from the field of education, Mrs. Josephine Vas. She is a recipient of the President’s Award for “The BEST Teacher 2003” from the Former President of India, Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, and the Ex Principal and currently Senior Advisor and Head-Projects and Training at the Jamnabai Narsee School. She is also the Chairperson of Eumind-India and the CISCE (ICSE) Council had appointed her as the School Inspector for School Affiliations from 2002 till her retirement as the Principal in 2009.  
 
The programme commenced in  cultural mode with the singing of the Navkar Mantra and Saraswati  Vandana by Parulben Bhansali accompanied by Manushi Mehta and Karan Mehta followed by the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest along with the Palanpur Samaj Kendra committee members. 
 
This was followed by young Parshva Mehta displaying his karate skills and Shail Saraiya giving a performance on the drums. From here, the young comperes, Krisha Shah, Kush Jhaveri and Rajvi Shah took over announcing the various achievements of all the young stars. 
In the sports section, Parshva Mehta was felicitated for winning the gold medal in the 1st Open All India Taekwando Championship and a silver medal in the same championship in another category. 
 
Rishab Shah was felicitated for his outstanding performance in Chess. He is an International rated chess player with an Elo of 1977 and stood 6th out of 56 players in the under 13 category in the World School Chess Tournament in Russia where he represented India and the Indian team stood 2nd out of the 40 participating teams. 
 
Veer Shah was felicitated for his performance in Lawn Tennis. At the age of 14, Veer won the All India Lawn Tennis Championship Series under 16 doubles in Hyderabad , the Silver trophy in the National ICSE Lawn Tennis Tournament in the under 17 category and has represented India in the International Lawn Tennis Federation Junior Tournaments (under 18) held in Kenya this year.  
 
On the academic front, there were excellent results. The Palanpur Samaj Kendra felicitated Deep Kothari, Saloni Parikh, Simit Shah, Jay Mehta and Shikha Bhansali for acquiring their Masters degree in various spheres, Jay Bhansali for acquiring the C.S., Elisha Shah and Vidhi Mehta for acquiring L.L.B. degrees and Rahil Shah for acquiring a C.A. degree. There were outstanding academic achievers who had secured their Bachelor degrees, HSC students who had excelled in their examinations and IGCSE, ICSE and SSC students who had secured wonderful results. Notable amongst the ICSE students was Kush Jhaveri having secured 98% and Naman Mehta having secured 97% while Siddhant Mehta shone at the IGCSE with 96%.  
 
Talented Kush Jhaveri gave a wonderful performance with a powerful speech and act. He received a thunderous round of applause from the audience. 
 
Amongst the announcements for special achievements was that of Esha Mehta who was a part of the overall winning team in LMAX Exchange Clipper Round the World 2015-16 Yacht Race. Her remarkable feat was screened and her display of grit and determination were much applauded by the audience. It remains etched in the minds of all present as it was surely an extremely difficult task undertaken and achieved. 
Khushboo Shah was felicitated for entering the Limca Book of Records for the largest book sculpture- a 16 inch tiger. 
 
After the felicitation of all the rising stars, Mrs Vas gave an inspiring speech that evolved around education, talent and hard work. Her words left a lasting image on the young minds present in the audience and she effortlessly started off many thought processes amongst all present in the auditorium, irrespective of the generation to which each belonged. She applauded the Palanpur Samaj Kendra’s endeavour in promoting education, art and sports amongst the youngsters of the community and giving them much encouragement in their journey. Her enigmatic warm personality enamoured all and left a lasting impression on the gathering. 
 
Navinbhai Mehta, Chairman of Palanpur Samaj Kendra addressed the audience and highlighted all the work being undertaken in various fields by the organisation. 
 
The event, organised due the efforts of the Education Committee of Palanpur Samaj Kendra, ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
