Dr Ashok Kothari Elected President of National Society of the Friends of the Trees

Dr Ashok S Kothari has been recently elected as President of the National Society of the Friends of the Trees. The organisation was started in 1957 by Dr Homi Bhabha, Kulpati Kanaiyalal Munshi, Lilavati Munshi, S.P.Godrej, Kisan Mehta, Sadoba Patil and other leading citizens of Mumbai in 1957. Former presidents of the society include V P Naik, J J Bhabha, S P. Godrej and Dr Pheroza Godrej.

Earlier this month, Dr Kothari was also elected as the Honorary Secretary of the 130 year old Bombay Natural History Society. This is the third time that he has been elected to this prestigious position.

Dr Kothari is currently working on a Gujarati translation of Dr Salim Ali`s classic, The Book of Indian Birds. The highly acclaimed book has descriptions of 438 birds and colour pictures. The Gujarati edition is likely to be released in Mumbai and Gandhinagar within the next six months.

Recently, Dr Kothari was also appointed Avenue Chairman for Tree Planting, Nature Trails and Nature Education for Rotary District 3141 during the forthcoming Rotary year (July 2017 to June 2018).
