Chartered Accountant late Shri Vinod M. Mehta, who passed away on August 17, 2017, was the first Chartered Accountant in the Palanpuri Jain community and co-founder of the firm Sampat and Mehta, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2016. He was well known both for his professional expertise and his philanthropic passion.

The son of late Shri Manilalbhai Virchandbhai Mehta, a gemstones and diamond trader in Rangoon from a large religious Jain family, Vinod Mehta was born on 13 April, 1929 in Palanpur. Upon completing his primary schooling in Palanpur, his intellectual curiosity brought him to Mumbai to pursue higher education at Sydenham College of Commerce where amongst various other involvements, he promoted the Palanpur Youth Association.   After completing his Chartered Accountancy in 1953, he, along with late Shri Pratap Sampat who became his close friend when they were together in college, co-founded their firm Sampat and Mehta in 1956.

During his illustrious career, he diligently represented a large pool of prominent clients for various professional matters but was equally committed to providing impartial support and guidance to many members of the community that transcended finance, tax and inheritance, especially to widows and single ladies.

His readiness to help one and all stemmed from his humility, selflessness, generosity, and philanthropic passion which drove his leadership as a trustee and a guiding force for many charitable institutions in Palanpur and Mumbai such as Palanpur Eye Hospital, Balaram Shagan Kshetra Samiti, Samarpan Trust, NASSEO, and K D Parikh Trust. He was active in the creation and management of the Palanpur Samaj Kendra in its early years of establishment. He whole-heartedly supported needy students with scholarships and personal guidance.

Beyond his professional proficiencies, at heart he was an artist with a voracious appetite for knowledge who appreciated the performing arts and enjoyed music, theatre and literature, especially the works of the renowned poet and pride of Gujarat, Kavi Kalapi.

He was a beautiful soul, a loyal friend, a confidant, and mentor who touched the lives of countless individuals, a true pillar for the extended Mehta family and the Palanpuri Community at large.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and even great grandfather. His wife Late Smt. Kanak V. Mehta passed away in 2010 and he is survived by his son Nimishbhai Mehta, daughters Ninaben Mody and Belaben Jhaveri and their respective families.
