Siddhant Mehta Represented India in U-17 Boys Rugby at 2018 Youth Olympic Games qualifiers

Siddhant S. Mehta was a part of the Indian team that represented the country at the recently concluded 'Asia Rugby U17 Rugby Sevens Championship' which was held at the Tainan Municipal Rugby Stadium, Tainan in Taiwan. The tournament was part of the qualifying competition to select countries that will participate in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.


Though the team finished 7th in the overall championships, losing to the stronger and more experienced teams from Malaysia, Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei, they defeated both the UAE and Laos.

Siddhant is currently studying in Std X at Cathedral & John Connon School, Mumbai. He is the son of Arpita and Sumeet Mehta and grandson of Late Nainaben and Kumarbhai K. Mehta.
 
Earlier, Siddhant was a member of the Maharashtra state team that emerged as the Runners-up in the Junior National Rugby Sevens championships held at Chennai on June 10-11, 2017. He was also a member of the Mumbai district team that won the state championships held in Nagpur in June 2 where they beat Kolhapur in the final.
 
Last year, Siddhant was also a member of the state team that won the rugby tournament held as part of the National School Games 2016 organised by the SGFI in Bhubhaneshwar. He has been playing rugby for the past two years.
 
Siddhant is also an avid football player and last year also represented the school team which won the all-India qualifying tournament and represented India at the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Finals round held in Munich.
