Palanpuri Diamantaires Speak at 3rd Dubai Diamond Conference, Some Veterans Honoured

A number of Palanpuri diamantaires participated in key sessions at the 3rd Dubai Diamond Conference, a biennial industry meet organised by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) recently, while a few veteran diamantaires were also honoured at the Gala Dinner event. The Conference focused on the theme ‘Shaping the future of an interconnected marketplace’.

Inaugurated by His Excellency Abdullah Al Saleh, UAE Ministry of Economy, Undersecretary of Foreign Trade and Industry, UAE, and DMCC’s Executive Chairman, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the two day event was attended by nearly 275 delegates from across the globe. There were senior ministers and government officials from mining countries, leaders across different segments of the diamond and jewellery business, and representatives from sectors servicing the industry like banks and gemmological labs.

On the first day, Rajiv P. Mehta of Dimexon participated in a discussion on ‘How diamonds fit in the new era of millennials?’ along with other industry leaders including the CEO of the Diamond Producers Association (DPA) Jean-Marc Lieberherr.

Later that evening at the grand Gala Dinner event, the DMCC and the DDE together honoured a group of seven diamantaires who they described as the “founding fathers of the Dubai diamond trade”. The honorees included six Palanpuris – Harshadbhai Mehta of 7Cs, Mahendra Parikh of Diarough, Vijay Shah of Vijaydimon, Dilipbhai Mehta of Rosy Blue, Pankajbhai Mehta of Dimexon and Rajeshbhai Mehta of Supergems.

On the morning of the second day Ashit Mehta, whose company Aurostar was the Platinum Sponsor, made a presentation. Later Rajesh Mehta of Supergems Group and Rihen Mehta of 7Cs Group also spoke as part of the panel on ‘The impact of value added tax (VAT) or GST on wholesale diamond trading’ along with other stalwarts of the industry.
