Sanjay Kothari speaking at a GJSCI event
Well-known diamantaire Sanjay A Kothari has been chosen as the new Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI), the nodal entity for skill development of the Indian Gems & Jewellery industry. He assumed the new responsibility in early October, taking over the reins of the organisation from Founder Chairman Premkumar Kothari, who led the organisation from 2012-2018.
GJSCI was formed in 2012 under the aegis of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and is currently functioning under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). It has been created by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council, SEEPZ Gem & Jewellery Manufacturers Association and Jewellers Association, Jaipur.
Speaking to the media soon after his appointment, Sanjaybhai said that his aim during the next phase of GJSCI’s growth and development was to partner with industry bodies in traditional jewellery manufacturing clusters as well as training institutes already offering courses in the field.
He said that his vision was to develop a vast number of skilled specialists across the industry, so that the world’s top brands would be confident about sourcing their jewellery from manufacturers in India.
Sanjaybhai has been an industry leader for many decades, having been on various committees of GJEPC including twice as Chairman, and is on a Board member of other industry bodies such as Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, World Diamond Mark etc.
