Abhay Mehta Heads South Asian Region for Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO)

 Abhay Mehta

Over the last two years, Abhay S. Mehta, partner at Mehta Jewellery in Chennai, has played an instrumental role in expanding the activities of the well-known global body, Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) across South Asia. Holding the prestigious post of Regional Chair of EO, he has helped set up as many as seven new chapters including Sri Lanka, Nagpur, Kerala, Andhra, Assam, Goa and Bhopal.

A well-known name in the EO circles for almost two decades, Abhay is the son of Late Sushilaben and Late Surendrabhai M Mehta, and comes from a family that developed and has run successful business ventures in Chennai for many generations.

EO is a global organisation that aims to connect entrepreneurs across countries, regions and industries by creating different learning opportunities. Its roots date back to the early 1980s when pioneering steps were taken in the US, and currently it has over 13,000 members in 186 chapters at different locations in 57 countries.

Abhay Mehta has been a member of the Chennai Chapter since 2001. In 2014, he was one of the 20 members chosen out of 11,000 global members for a week-long Global Leadership programme, and in 2017, he was elected as the Regional Chair for South Asia. The region covers India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, and now has 24 chapters with more than 1,550 members.

He was also instrumental in organising the first EO Regional Leadership academy in South Asia, last year in Amritsar and this year in Nepal. The Leadership Academy provides amazing and intensive leadership exercises and practice for three days. The Dean of this Leadership Academy is Warren Rustand of United States and George Gan of Malaysia under whom Abhay Mehta has trained five years ago.

In the past two years, Abhay has worked tirelessly with a strong sense of determination to create learning opportunities between the entrepreneurs in different industries and spread the entrepreneurial spirit.

Another key activity that grew during his tenure is EO Cares- a young Entrepreneur development program, initiated and developed by EO Bangalore chapter. The programme trains and mentors young entrepreneurs and they are encouraged to form smaller groups so that they become internal support systems at no additional cost to each other.

Abhay’s tenure ends in June 2019 but he says that he plans to continue his endeavours in the field even after that.
