Aditya Mehta & Pankaj Advani Win IBSF World Team Snooker Crown; First World Title for Mehta

Aditya Mehta paired with Pankaj Advani to lift the team title at the IBSF World Team Snooker event held in the last week of September in Mandalay. This was Mehta’s maiden world title.

The Indian pair outclassed Team Thailand 2 by a margin of 5 frame to 2 in the best of 9 frames event. Earlier, they had beaten Hong Kong in the quarter-final and Thailand 1 in the semi-final.

Media reports state that “the doubles tie went India's way thanks to a handy 55 break from Mehta” and that he “played some of the best snooker in his career” and “thrashed his Thai opponent 83-9” in the seventh frame “to get his name on the privileged list of world champions”.

Speaking to the media immediately after the win, Mehta said, "I'm absolutely excited to win my first world title. All the years of hard work and struggle has finally paid off." It may be recalled that Mehta has not participated in competitive sport for some time due to health issues and the win comes shortly after he resumed playing at the national and international level.
