Pranav Mistry, the young Palanpuri who rocked the tech world over a decade ago with his presentation of gesture-controlled computer interface ‘Sixth Sense’ has scaled another peak by being appointed as the President & CEO of STAR Labs (Samsung Technology And Advanced Research), an independent entity of Samsung Electronics.
Announcing his next “career advance” on Linked In, Mistry said, “I am sure it will be a lot more learning for me in this bigger role, and lot more fun, too.”
The new leadership role with a higher level of responsibility comes two years after he was promoted as a vice president at Samsung Electronics, and about seven years after he joined the Korean electronics giant as Director of Research in 2012. Mistry is seen as one of those who steered the creation of Samsung's first Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and was given the privilege of unveiling the product to the world at a press event in 2013.
As is well known, Pranav Mistry is an alumnus of Vidyamandir in Palanpur who later went on to graduate in Computer Engineering from Ahmedabad, then did his Masters both from the Industrial Design Centre (IDC) at IIT Mumbai and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), before moving to MIT Labs where he developed Sixth Sense. He also did short stints with Microsoft, Google, NASA and other leading organisations in the field of technology.
