Three senior Palanpuri diamantaires are members of the Board of Directors of the World Diamond Council (WDC) that will lead the organisation during 2020-22. The global body is the diamond industry’s representative in the tripartite coalition of the Kimberley Process (KP), along with representatives of governments and civil society.
The three are Anoop Mehta, representing the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), Russell Mehta, representing The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Rajiv P. Mehta of Dimexon Diamonds.
Anoop Mehta was one of the eight members who were voted in at the beginning of March as part of an online process, while Russell Mehta and Rajiv Mehta continue to hold positions they had been elected to earlier.
The WDC Board comprises four representatives of each of the five segments of the industry – Mining, Retail, Wholesale Trading, Manufacturing and General (At Large), in addition to the Office Bearers and the Honorary appointees.
Anoop Mehta is from the wholesale trading segment, while Russell Mehta and Rajiv Mehta are from the manufacturing segment of the business.
The first meeting of the newly constituted Board will take place in virtual mode on June 5 just prior to the KP Intersessional Meeting which will be held in the second week of June. Both were originally scheduled to take place in Moscow, but have now been transformed into virtual gatherings.
