RNCT Crosses Unique Milestone With One Million Khichdi Meals Served During Pandemic

The Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust crossed a unique milestone recently when it crossed the figure of One Million Khichdi meals served to underprivileged and needy people across Mumbai who have been affected by the restrictions imposed as a result of the Coivd-19 pandemic.


The special occasion was celebrated in the presence of Hon’ble Smt. Varsha Gaikwad, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister of Education at Dharavi on 22nd September 2020.


Since March 29, 2020, RNCT along with its various partners and the support of large numbers of generous donors have been helping underprivileged families and individuals across Mumbai to cope with various challenges. Among its various activities, the Trust along with DPs Kitchen has been serving hot khichdi meals to daily wage workers and others rendered jobless and in need of support in different parts of the city without a break.


The project has ensured daily sustenance for these workers, making sure no one had to sleep on an empty stomach. Meals were distributed in Borivali, Malad, Kurla, Byculla, Dharavi, Parel, Mazgaon, Matunga, Bandra, Dharavi, Vikhroli, Mulund, Bhivandi, Mankhurd, Andheri, Vile Parle, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Dhobi Talao, Colaba, Fountain, and other locations. Ratna Nidhi has set up 5 kitchens at Malad, Matunga, Dadar, Chembur and Ghatkopar. The hot, nutritious meals are cooked, packed in hygienic containers and delivered to the identified beneficiary group every day.


Rajiv Mehta, Managing Trustee said, “We thank each and every donor who supported this project and enabled us to reach our mission of serving a million meals to underprivileged communities in Mumbai.”


Earlier, Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust received “Compassion in Action - Mahakaruna Award” for the same initiative from the Mahabodhi International Meditation Center Ladakh and the Mahakaruna Foundation, Delhi.
