Well known legal counsel Rohan Pradeep Shah has been featured in an exclusive coffee table publication titled, “Distinguished Legal Minds of India” published by Legal Era-Legal Media Group, a leading name in the field of legal publishing. The book was released by Justice Dipak Misra, Former Chief Justice of India, in the presence of a number of other legal luminaries in March 2020, at a special function on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Legal Media Group.
 

The book has been classified into three sections i.e. Distinguished Senior Counsel, Distinguished Lawyers and Leading Law Firm Partners and according to the publishers, presents the individual journeys of some of the greats of this profession, going “beyond being just a chronicle…. (to acquaint) the readers with the person behind the persona” featured in each case.

Shah’s profile begins with a quote from Chambers Asia-Pacific 2018 which said that he “is considered by market commentators to be ‘a big name in the industry,’ handling both direct and indirect tax matters. He has expertise in both advisory and litigation matters”.

It traces the path of Shah’s legal journey from the time in 1987 that he began working with Crawford Bayley & Co., Advocates & Solicitors, Mumbai as Legal Associate, through the period he worked an independent Counsel in the Chambers of Senior Advocate Arshad Hidayatullah and late M. Hidayatullah, former Vice-President of India and Retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, and the Chambers of Rafiq Dada, ex-Additional Solicitor General of India and Senior Advocate.

The narrative describes how from 1994 to 2001, Shah established his own Chambers and subsequently, in 2001, moved on to found the law firm, Economic Laws Practice (ELP), of which, he was the Founding Partner and Managing Partner up until his retirement on September 30, 2016. ELP was recognised as the firm that most rapidly scaled to being among the top ten law firms in the country, and had offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune and Chennai and a team of almost 150 lawyers. Since then, Shah has been practicing as a Counsel in the Supreme Court, various High Courts, Tribunals and other judicial forums.

Among the other highlights noted are the fact that Shah has won numerous awards for this work over the years; has been a speaker at various prominent national and international legal forums; and in November, 2019 was appointed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as India’s Representative and Governor on the Board of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) for a three-year term.
