PSK Senior Citizens’ Activity Centre Gets Positive Response

A recent initiative taken by Palanpur Samaj Kendra to organize regular activity for senior citizens (above the age of 61) has received an encouraging response.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, those who are participating in the group meet at Shanti building, Kemps Corner from 3 pm to 5 pm. Several activities are held during this time with multiple aims – entertainment, helping the seniors to mingle, and also providing useful guidance and tips on relevant topics. Among the activities conducted are board games, singing and dancing sessions, lessons on using a smart phone, special lectures by dieticians and counsellors, stories and explanation on spirituality, field visits, and more.

Some of the activities conducted include board games, singing and dancing sessions, lessons on using a smartphone, special lectures by dieticians and counselors, stories and explanations on spirituality, field visits, and more. Lecturers specializing in these activities conduct these sessions.

Our dietitian, Mrs. Neeta Shah holds these informative sessions. She discusses topics like the importance of water while aging gracefully, how food digestion changes with age, the time certain medicines should be consumed and more. The participants have found these sessions to be very helpful and enlightening. Our spirituality lecturer, Mrs. Rashmi Desai entertains the participants with stories and explanations on religion and spirituality. Mr. Ravindra Kamble, our singing teacher, focuses on having fun sessions reliving old songs, bhajans and prayers. Participants also learn how to use a smartphone with the help of Mrs. Vaishali Shah. She guides them and keeps them up to date with technology. Participants also have the chance to show off their creative skills with the help of art and craft teacher, Mrs. Falguni Mehta. She encourages them to be creative with various craft activities and painting skills. Participants are also regularly taken out for field visits which include exploring new places, watching movies or dramas, lunches at restaurants, visits to temples and more.

These sessions are held for the sole purpose of having fun, making new friends, mingling and enjoying while always creating new memories that will be cherished. The regular gatherings help the seniors to de-stress, boost energy levels and also develop bonds with new persons within the community.

The Senior Citizens' Activity Centre is directed and managed by Mrs. Bela Shah..
