Vishnu Vaghela, a 24-year old from Palanpur who is completely visually impaired, has been a member of the Indian Blind Football team representing the country at various international tournaments. He completed Std 12 from Mamata Mandir, one of the institutions run by Vidyamandir Trust in Palanpur, in 2016.
Earlier this month, he was part of the Indian team that took part in the 2022 IBSA Blind Football World Grand Prix in Mexico. The Indian team finished a creditable 5th among 18 participating countries. Prior to that, in 2018, he bagged the game changer award at the Indian nationals.
Vishnu, who is the captain of the Gujarat state team, and the only player from the state to be chosen for India, hails from Vada village in Kankrej Taluka in Banaskantha.
An avid sports enthusiast, Vishnu began his career as a cricketer while in Std 6, and shifted to football only in Std 12.
In a recent article in Ahmedabad Mirror, Sunil J Mathew, Head Coach of Indian Blind Football team is quoted as saying, “Vishnu is one of the best defenders and a highly motivated and disciplined player. He is one of the future stars of the Indian team.”
