In early September, some sections of the Indian army posted at different locations in forward areas of Kashmir received a unique surprise – Musical shows curated specially by the well-known troupe of Ms. Hina Mehta and her fellow artistes from Mumbai.
The entire tour and the shows were sponsored by Parikh Foundation, fulfilling a deep desire of one of its Trustees, Shri Jitendra Parikh to show appreciation for those who work tirelessly to serve the country in difficult postings.
The tour was made possible thanks to the efforts of Major General (Retd) Anuj Mathur.
The shows, “Ek Surmayi Shayam Jawano ke Naam”, were held from September 10-13 in Pattan in Baramulla district, in Kupwara and finally in Baramulla town for an audience mainly comprising military personnel posted in the vicinity. While some shows were in regular auditoriums, one show was held in a large hangar area converted into an auditorium for the day.
Ms. Mehta enthralled the audience with the live music and singing, a mix of classic and current new hits, as well as some songs composed by the performers. The melodious voices and the lively beats encouraged the audience to join in, with clapping and even some dancing in the aisles.
Parikh Foundation, in a thoughtful gesture, presented sweet boxes to all those present. During the visit, they lived with the personnel, sharing guest accommodation within the army area and dined in the mess along with the army personnel.
It was a unique and extremely moving experience for all those who had joined the event organized by the Foundation and the singers for the tour. Seeing the massive response, it was agreed that the possibility of organizing similar shows at a future date would be further explored.
