Dilip Amirambhai Purohit, a student of Banaskantha District Kelavani Mandal, Palanpur (BDKM) managed, R.R. Mehta College of Science and C.L. Parikh College of Commerce, was felicitated by the President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu for his exemplary service as volunteer of NSS (National Service Scheme) unit run by the college.
The felicitation was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on September 24. Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Thakur and Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Nisith Pramanik were also present on the occasion.
Dilip was one of the 30 all-India winners of this prestigious award for 2020-21. At present NSS has about 40 lakh volunteers on its rolls spread over the country. The NSS, an all-India central sector scheme, is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
The citation released by the government noted that Dilip was selected for his “excellent services during COVID- 19 Pandemic. He also took part in various camps and rural developmental activities, saved a school going child from accident, distributed water pots and dustbins, provided free education to needy children and participated in various NSS programmes on tree plantation, blood donation and organisation of health camps. He also played important role in promoting public awareness about the Government schemes.”
Dilip also received the University level Best NSS Volunteer Award for the year 2020-21.
