They say too many cooks spoil the broth, but we found that a room full of them add mirch, masala and a whole lot of mazaa to an evening!
The annual programme of the Palanpur Samaj Kendra’s Women’s Forum, held on March 22nd at Tarabai Hall, highlighted creativity and enthusiasm in equal measure as teams battled for the coveted title of ‘Kitchen Queen’.
The Women’s Forum Committee paid special tribute to their co-committee member, Niyati Sanghvi, whose untimely death has left us mourning.
The tempo was lifted as organisers Sangeen Mehta and Nikita Mehta had devised a unique set of games for the occasion, set against the backdrop of a daily kitchen. More than 100 women competed across four teams, each named after a popular Mumbai restaurant: Swati, Sun, Gaylord and Cream Centre.
While one game had them designing jewellery made up of raw spices, another showcased creative napkin folding, or singing Bollywood songs related to food. Participants enjoyed a game where two team members had to make rotis with their hands tied to each other’s, and perhaps the most popular game of the evening illuminated the homemaker’s multi-tasking skills: A participant had to, simultaneously, chop onions, handle a crying (doll) child, and pretend to fight with their husbands over the phone. It was a riot!
The scores were close and each team gave it their all — but eventually, team Swati took away the ‘Queen of the Kitchen’ crown. The exciting evening ended, befittingly, over snacks and laughter.
