Anoop V. Mehta, President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the hands of Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Government of India and Mr Frank Geerkens, Consul General of Belgium in Mumbai at the 49th India Gem & Jewellery Awards organized by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in Mumbai on April 23, 2023.
Anoopbhai, who is Chairman and Managing Director of Mohit Diamonds Pvt. Ltd., and a partner of Mohanlal Raichand & Sons, was felicitated for his exceptional contribution to the gems and jewellery industry and his role in establishing and leading the Bharat Diamond Bourse, the world’s largest diamond bourse, for over two and a half decades. He is also Chairman of Gemmological Institute of India (GII).
At the international level, Anoopbhai has also been a long-standing member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and was elected to the Board of Directors of the World Diamond Council (WDC) for 2022-24.
He started his career at a young age of 17 by joining his family business, Mohanlal Raichand & Sons. Now more than 100-years old, the Mohit Group is one of the oldest diamond businesses in India, and is the oldest Sightholder of De Beers having been first awarded a Sight in 1947 soon after the diamond industry began to revive following the end of the 2nd World War.
