Justice (Retd) Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri was recently appointed as a member of the newly reconstituted 10-member Lokpal search committee which will be chaired by Justice (Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai a former judge of the Supreme Court.
The search committee has been tasked with recommending names to the Prime Minister-led selection committee for appointment as chief and members of the Lokpal, the official anti-corruption ombudsman.
This comes soon after Justice Jhaveri was selected as one of the four ‘Members of Court’ representing India at The PCA (Permanent Court of Arbitration), The Hague.
Justice Jhaveri is the son of Late Satyendra Kalidas Jhaveri, who was a well-known Advocate and the first elected Member of Gujarat Bar Council. His grandfather Late Kalidas Jaskaran Jhaveri, was a highly respected freedom fighter who was closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.
He was elevated as Judge of Gujarat High Court in March 2004, confirmed as permanent Judge in June 2005, and moved to the Rajasthan High Court in August 2016. He was appointed as Acting Chief Justice in the same court in February 2017 before being appointed as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court in August 2018, the position at which he eventually retired.
