Diya Mehta Completes Prestigious Internship at The White House in Washington

Diya Mehta, 22 year old daughter of Alok and Rajul Mehta and granddaughter of Satish & Mallika Mehta and Nikunj & Purnima Bhandari, was selected to intern at The White House this fall (September to December 2024) with the Office of the First Lady, one of the most prestigious internships in the United States.

She had a full time role where she spent her days in the East Wing working with the Communications team for Dr. Jill Biden. Alongside her everyday tasks she worked once-in-a-lifetime events such as the first-ever White House Conference on Women’s Health Research and the White House Diwali party.

Diya was one of a few interns who also maintained a full academic schedule throughout the course of the internship by attending class in the evenings as a senior at the George Washington University, where she is pursuing a BA in International Affairs with a concentration in Gender and a minor in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Expressing gratitude to the Communications team and everyone in the East Wing at The White House, Diya wrote in a social media post on LinkedIn, “Being part of a team dedicated to amplifying voices through events like the Girls Leading Change 2024 and the first-ever White House Conference on Women's Health Research was truly inspiring. I had the honor of contributing to the thoughtful communication strategies for these events while learning through unforgettable experiences, such as holiday decorating at the White House and creating content with Willow, the First Cat!"

Although she lives in Washington DC now, she is based in New York City. Prior to this incredible opportunity, Diya worked at MSNBC, one of the top news broadcast networks in the US, and in social media management for a congressional campaign in New York City. Earlier she studied at the The Chapin School and did her High School at Riverdale Country School.
