The Sports Committee of Palanpur Samaj Kendra (PSK) organised the 3rd edition of the Box Cricket Tournament on February 9, 2025 at the St Stanislaus Turf in Bandra. This year, the tournament was in fond memory of Nikhilbhai Shah.

The 2025 edition saw an increase in the number of participants. There were four new teams in the men’s category, which comprised a total of 16 teams.

The process commenced with the auction in which all 220 participants were auctioned, up from last year, when 157 players took part. Some of the new players fetched mind-boggling amounts!

Alongside the large number of participants, there was also a surge in viewers with many turning up to cheer the teams and the players.

Right through the tournament, the games were of a high quality, and during the pre-quarters, eliminators and semi-finals, there were many keen contests and nail-biting finishes.

This year there were new winners in both the women’s and men’s category.

Among the women, Spectrum Gladiators triumphed over TKC Divas who fought well. The men’s section saw Asth Warriors edge ahead of Janam Diamond Challengers, who had earlier achieved the highest score in the tournament – 157 off 9 overs in a league game.

Special mention must be made of the remarkable performance from Harsh Mehta of PN Panthers, who scored a 28 ball century in the league game, though his team failed to reach the finals!

The entire Shah family of Nikhilbhai was present and even participated in the tournament. The event was a success due to the efforts of Nitaben, Shailaben, Archanaben, Kumarbhai and Milanbhai with support from Saurabh who put together the proceedings, and Nimishbhai Shah, who as always, took care of all the multiple small details. The Sports Committee also specially thanked the Sponsors, most of whom were present at the venue, for their support which made the event possible.
