A book honouring the late Arunkumar Ramniklal Mehta, was released by Shri Sharadchandra Pawar, in the presence of Shri Mukesh D. Ambani, alongside members of the Mehta family, at a special function held at Trident Nariman Point in Mumbai on December 26, 2025.
The evening, hosted by Smt. Rajnika Arun Mehta and the Mehta family, brought together an extraordinary gathering of industry leaders, public figures, family members, and close associates of the legendary diamantaire, institution builder, and founder of what would become the Rosy Blue Group.
Titled ‘Heero’, the book is a deeply personal and meticulously researched chronicle of Arunbhai’s journey and values. Authored by Chirantana Bhatt (Gujarati edition) and edited by Salil Tripathi (English edition), it is anchored in over four decades of Arunbhai’s handwritten Gujarati journals, never intended for publication, and drawn together through interviews with more than 150 individuals across family, business, and community life.
HEERO offers an unusually unvarnished account of leadership shaped by restraint, integrity, and long-term thinking, with inputs from the journals where Arunbhai recorded not only success, but also doubt, vulnerability, health challenges, ethical dilemmas, and moments of setback.
HEERO offers an unusually unvarnished account of leadership shaped by restraint, integrity, and long-term thinking. The authors have weaved together lived experiences and multiple voices into a narrative that privileges honesty over hagiography.
While rooted in the diamond industry, HEERO speaks far beyond it. It profiles a life that achieved global scale without shortcuts, spectacle, or compromise as it narrated a story of enterprise, as well as offers a guide to decision-making grounded in character.
Conceived over nearly five years, the book was curated by Russell Arun Mehta, who consciously entrusted independent journalists with interpreting the material — ensuring that the story remained fair, balanced, and true.
Russell Arun Mehta described the book as “a responsibility, not a tribute,” observing that his father’s life offered “a mirror — of the choices we face, the values we test, and the way we choose to move forward.”
Shri Mukesh D. Ambani, in a deeply personal address, reflected on Shri Mehta’s defining philosophy: “Leadership does not need to be loud. Endurance matters more than speed. Credibility matters more than applause.” He spoke of Shri Mehta’s restraint in success, his belief that trust is the real currency of business, and his conviction that enterprise must ultimately serve society.
Shri Sharad Pawar paid tribute to Shri Mehta as a visionary institution builder, recalling their long association and his pivotal role in shaping not only the diamond industry, but also enduring community institutions.
Family members — including Amita Mehta, Mona Mehta, and Dilip Mehta — shared deeply personal reflections that revealed the human core behind the public figure: a mentor, a listener, a brother, a father, and a quiet guide to many.
Other speakers highlighted Shri Mehta’s lifelong commitment to education and community development through institutions such as Vidyamandir Trust, Palanpur Samaj Kendra, Banaskantha District Kelavani Mandal, and his foundational role in the Bharat Diamond Bourse. His belief that institutions must outlast individuals — and that leadership is stewardship — emerged as a recurring theme.
The evening also featured a short tribute film, narrated by Aamir Khan, bringing together voices from across Shri Mehta’s personal and professional life.
The programme concluded with the formal unveiling of the book and a reflective dialogue with the authors, followed by closing remarks from Viraj Russell Mehta, representing the next generation. His words underscored a central idea of the evening: that HEERO is not a book about the past, but a compass for the future.
