Anshul Ketan Kothari has been selected as a member of the Indian Swimming team at the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held in Delhi in early October this year following his outstanding performance in the recently concluded Federation Cup test Events and National Aquatics meet. He is the only representative of the state of Gujarat to be selected on the team and is the first member of the Palanpuri community to represent the country in swimming. Anshul is the son of Sushma and Ketan Rasiklal Kothari of Surat and grandson of Late Sumanben and Late Rasiklal Bapalal Kothari.

In the Federation Cup test Events held in July 2010 at New Delhi, Anshul won three silver medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, clocking the third best time ever recorded by an Indian swimmer in the 100m event. Then in the 64th Senior National Aquatic Championships 2010 held in Jaipur from August 24-28, Anshul secured a bronze in the 50m freestyle and placed 4th in 100m and 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.

Earlier, in 2009, Palanpur Online had reported that after his feats in the National Championships held at Hyderabad, Anshul had been selected as one of the 30 probables for the CWG and had been sent by the Swimming Federation of India for training in South Africa.

Subsequently, after continued good performances in 2009 at the Al India University Meet in Amritsar and the National Aquatics Championships at Trivandrum, Anshul was chosen as part of the Core Group for the CWG and underwent a two month training in Europe along with the country’s other top swimmers.
