Aditya Mehta (on r) congratulates Passakorn Suwannawat after the final
Aditya Mehta is now ranked as the No 2. Snooker player in Asia after he emerged as the Runner-Up trophy at the Asian Snooker Championships held in Indore, India last week, losing by a narrow margin to Thailand’s Passakorn Suwannawat in the final. The Indian star, who had won seven matches in a row losing just five frames in the process, had been favoured to win, but failed to do so in a closely fought match. Aditya had also been runner-up at the last Asian Snooker Championships held three years ago.
With this performance, Aditya has qualified for the World Snooker Championship along with Suwannawat, according to a statement released by Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS) president Sindhu Pulsirivong. He has also qualified to play in the prestigious UK Pro Snooker Circuit later this year.
Earlier in 2011, Aditya had qualified for the Asian championships after he won the snooker league tournament during the National Selection Camp at Ahmedabad. Last year Aditya had won a Silver in the Team event and a Bronze in the Individual event in Snooker at the Asian Games held in China in November 2010.
