A new 50-bed specialty hospital with advanced facilities for dialysis and cardiac care is being set up in Mansarovar area in Palanpur by diamantaire Shrenikbhai Choksi. The Foundation Stone and Pooja ceremony for the Rs 15 crore ‘Mavjat Hospital’ which is being sponsored by the Chunilal Mangalji Choksi Charitable Trust, was laid in Palanpur recently by Choksi’s son Hemal and a group of children from the Mamta Mandir special school for differently-abled children. It was an emotional occasion for Choksi, who said that it had been his mother’s dream to establish permanent medical facilities in Palanpur to treat the poor and needy who could not afford expensive treatment. “We have named the hospital Mavjat keeping her vision in mind,” he said.

Shrenikbhai who is himself battling a life threatening illness, added, “I will put in every effort to make my mother’s long cherished dream a reality in my lifetime.” “The entire complex stands on a 70,000 sq ft plot and the hospital buildings will cover 30,000 sq ft,” said Dr Jayesh Bavishi, who will be spearheading the project at the local level. According to local trustee Hasmukh Mehta, "When fully functional, the hospital will serve the people of Banaskatha and Rajasthan. It will have facilities for angiography and angioplasty besides a kidney care centre with world-class facilities."
The dialysis unit is being set up in close co-ordination with Rupen Kothari whose Apex Kidney Care foundation operates over a dozen dialysis centres in Mumbai alone. Kothari said that there will be 10 dialysis machines and beds.
The Mavjat Hospital is expected to be operational in the next 12-18 months.
