Dr. Shefali Parikh Ranks 1st in Maharashtra at 2012 MBBS Exam; Wins Prestigious Award

Dr. Shefali Parikh has topped the MBBS exams in Maharashtra standing First among all the 31 medical colleges in the state during December 2012 with a score of 79.30%. She has been awarded the prestigious Narotam Sekhsaria Award for Excellence in Medicine as an undergraduate student in addition to receiving the Student of the Year Award from Seth G.S. Medical College, where she was studying. Shefali is the daughter of Bahula and Pradeep Kishorkant Parikh.

Shefali’s exceptional results are a continuation of an outstanding academic career.  In 2006 she stood First in Maharashtra and 2nd at the All India level in Std 10 ICSE Board exam.  Then in 2009, she stood First in the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test exam (CET) for admission to professional courses in the state, and also was the topper in two other Common Entrance examinations.

Shefali, who is now enrolled with Seth G.S. Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEM) for her Internship, is currently attending a short study tour at the North Western University, Chicago, NIH, Washington and Cornell University in New York. She plans to do her post- graduation in Paediatrics.

During her MBBS course, Shefali published three Research papers, and two more completed and under review. She also made a presentation at the 3rd Congress of European Academy of Paediatric Societies (EAPS) in Copenhagen, Denmark in Oct 2010, and is currently doing an ongoing research project at Robert Lurie Children’s hospital in Chicago.

A multi-faceted personality, Shefali also won numerous State Level quizzes, debates and scholarships and was elected Chief Organiser of Dreamz2010, a performing arts show focused on dance and music and an integral part of the Annual Inter-medical college festival. She actively participated in annual dance shows for the past three years and has trained in Indian Classical Dance, Indian Folk Dance plus is currently learning the dance form Jazz.

Shefali is also an active member of NGO Pragati ,working for bringing smiles to hospitalized children in BJ Wadia Hospital, Bombay Hospital, and Tata Memorial Cancer Institute.
